French Creek Council Restructure Announcement

The goal of the French Creek Council, BSA is and has always been to serve youth and make a positive impact on young lives. Over the past few years our council has seen thousands of kids take part in the program which will make every one of them a better person as they grow to be community leaders. Unfortunately the past few years have shown declines in membership and financial support. (camp revenue, activity event income, Friends of Scouting, and product sales) Along with these concerns is the announcement that the federal government has made the decision to increase the minimum salary requirement for exempt (salaried) employees effective December 1, 2016.

These circumstances have combined to force the French Creek Council board of directors to make some difficult decisions. On September 20, 2016 the French Creek Council Executive Board was presented with information pertaining to the future financial and logistical set-up of its 4 districts. After a lengthy discussion the board reluctantly but unanimously voted to make changes to the French Creek Council effective December 1, 2016. The following changes have been discussed with the leadership of each District and now this information is being shared with our families.

Washington Trail District: This District (Crawford County and Southern Erie County) will unfortunately be eliminated and Michel Cidor has been offered a District Associate position with the French Creek Council.

Oliver Perry District: Jared Magoon will serve all units in Erie County. Colonel Drake District:

Chad Rugh will serve units east of I-79 and south of Erie County except the Mercer County and Meadville Units.

Chief Kiondashwa District: Amanda Burkett will serve the Mercer County units, the units west of I-79 south of Erie County and Meadville units.

Staff changes will take place on December 1, 2016 but official District border changes will take place on January 1, 2017. If you have questions please attend Roundtable in November, contact the McGarvey Service center, (814-868-5571) or contact your District Executive. More information will be provided as soon as it becomes available concerning District events and meetings in 2017.

We know that this transition may not be easy but it is necessary to keep the Scouting program in Northwest Pennsylvania moving forward in the best interest of our kids.
