Wood Badge for the 21st Century
Wood Badge is advanced training in leadership skills for all adults in BSA programs. Not only Cub Scouters, but also leaders in Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, Venturing, and commissioner service are invited to participate in Wood Badge. The course offers more emphasis on leadership and "people" skills, less focus on Scoutcraft or Cub Scout training skills. Skills developed from the Wood Badge training will help a volunteer leader do a better job in any BSA program or at any level of involvement.
This advanced training is presented in two parts:
An advanced learning experience presented over two long (three-day) weekends or as a week-long course.
An application phase of several months during which the leaders apply the specific skills they have learned at Wood Badge to their Scouting responsibilities.
Leaders who successfully complete both parts of the training are recognized with the Wood Badge beads, woggle slide, and neckerchief. It is the goal of the BSA that every leader attend Wood Badge within two years of registering as an adult leader.
Wood Badge will evolve to be the core leadership skills training course for the Boy Scouts of America. The new Wood Badge course is less focused on outdoor skills--which are addressed in Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills and Powder Horn training---but will instead strengthen every volunteer's ability to work with and lead groups of youth and adults.
Wood Badge allows an in-depth exploration of leadership skills as well as a supervised implementation of the skills through a multipart delivery plan referred to as a “ticket.”
Course will be at Camp Olmsted on the following dates:
1st weekend (Friday through Sunday)
August 16, 17, & 18, 2013
and 2nd weekend (Friday through Sunday)
August 30, 31, & September 1, 2013
Cost is just $175 for this once-in-a-lifetime experience and financial help is available to those who think they can't afford it. Don't let affordability stop you! This course won't be this close for a while and will likely never be this inexpensive.
